Sabeen Mahmud Scholarship and Mentorship
Terms and Conditions
These terms and conditions apply to all current and past Sabeen Mahmud Scholarship (“Scholarship”) and Mentorship (“Mentorship”) recipient(s) (“recipient(s)”).
The parties constitute the recipients and Sabeen Mahmud Forum (“SMF”). Collectively, they may be referred to as, “the parties.”
This document is subject to change. It is the responsibility of recipients and applicants to regularly check this page for changes, and to contact Sabeen Mahmud Forum if they are unable to meet any of the the terms/conditions or if they are in violation of any terms/conditions (whether as a whole, or in part).
Academic standing
Receiving and continuing to receive the Sabeen Mahmud Scholarship and/or Mentorship is subject to the student being in good standing as defined by their university and program. During this period, students should meet (and continue to meet) the requirements of their university and program.
Receiving and continuing to receive the Sabeen Mahmud Scholarship and/or Mentorship is subject to the student maintaining (and continuing to maintain) a GPA at or above 3.0.
Conflicts of interest
Recipients are to let SMF know about any current and future conflicts of interest that may arise during the course of their Scholarship and/or Mentorship.
Recipients are to avoid conflicts of interest wherever they arise, or may be perceived to arise. If there is any confusion, they are to consult SMF before taking any step(s).
Documentation
As part of Scholarship and/or Mentorship requirements, recipients will provide SMF with documents included, but not restricted to, those requested to administer the Scholarship and/or Mentorship, and/or track and/or document progress.
Conduct
The recipient will conduct themselves professionally in public and online.
The recipient will not defame Sabeen Mahmud, SMF, the Scholarship and/or Mentorship.
The recipient will abide by the social media policy outlined in this document:
Social media policy
SMF has established these guidelines for appropriate use of social media, including but not limited to:
Networking sites (i.e. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram)
Video and photo sharing sites (i.e. Flickr, YouTube)
Messaging platforms (i.e. public posts on Messenger, WhatsApp)
Blogs, wikis, online forums and message boards (e.g. Quora)
Internal messaging systems (e.g. public posts on Slack, Yammer)
These guidelines apply to both SMF social media and personal use as it relates to SMF, the Scholarship, and the Mentorship.
Guidelines
Be Transparent. If you share anything related to SMF, the Scholarship, and/or the Mentorship and/or associate yourself with SMF, the Scholarship, and/or the Mentorship in any way, add a disclaimer in your profile such as: “Views expressed are my own.”
Use Good Judgment. Remember that what you share online is permanent. So be smart in what you say and do online. Ultimately, you are responsible for what you write, which can not only reflect on you personally but also on SMF, the Scholarship, and/or the Mentorship . If what you’re thinking of writing gives you concern, pause and reach out to us via email for guidance.
Uphold Our Values & Policies. Guidelines for functioning online are the same as the values, ethics and confidentiality you are expected to uphold in general as a recipient of the Scholarship and/or Mentorship.
Protect Confidential Information. Never share SMF, the Scholarship, and/or the Mentorship’s confidential or proprietary information, or share upcoming news about SMF, the Scholarship, and/or the Mentorship. Examples include, but are not limited to: financial information; information on volunteers, mentors, other mentees, other recipients, or anyone otherwise associated with, SMF, the Scholarship, and/or the Mentorship .
Proceed with Caution. You may encounter negative posts about SMF, the Scholarship, and/or the Mentorship. Let SMF respond to these, or, if you believe we are unaware of the incident/post(s), alert us via email.
Respect Our Brand. Recipients are not allowed to create or manage SMF, the Scholarship, and/or the Mentorship-branded social media accounts without official permission from SMF.
Stay Legal. Respect copyright and fair use laws. Give credit where credit is due.

Mentorship
Time commitment and nature of work
The mentorship will require 1-2 hours of time commitment per week.
Mentees will be working with a mental health professional (the mentor) and the nature of the mental health (and related) work will be determined between the mentor and mentee. Example areas for this work include clinical work, research, intakes, assessment, and/or coordination within the settings of clinical psychology, psychotherapy and/or psychiatry.
The scope of mentorship will not overlap with the duties of the student’s academic advisor.
Requirements
Mentees will be required to complete 30 hours over a 6-month period running from September 15th, 2024 to April 15th, 2025
Mentees will be required to attend all scheduled meetings with their mentors.
Mentees and mentors will be required to document every meeting using their respective forms.
Meetings
Meetings between mentors and mentees may take place online or in person. Professional behaviour and etiquette are to be followed for all meetings.
Meetings will be set up by mentors and mentees at mutually convenient times.
Communications between mentors and mentees are to always follow professional communication and etiquette. Phone calls, text messages, WhatsApp, and email may be used for communication within these professional boundaries. Communication is to be limited to working hours.
Resolution of differences, issues, and conflicts
To get consultation and help in cases of differences, issues, and/or conflicts between mentees and mentors, SMF can be reached via email. SMF aims to resolve these as soon as possible.
SMF also reserves the right to reassign and/or change the status of mentees and mentors.
