What We Aim to Do
The Sabeen Mahmud Forum hopes to see a world where people understand, protect and sustain their mental health and wellbeing. Prevention is at the heart of what we aim to do by addressing the sources of mental health problems for children and young adults. We aim to drive change in schools by supporting them to create safe spaces where they can share their fears, confusion and anxieties with an adult who listens without judgement and helps them determine how to handle stress, relate to others and make healthy informed choices.
To make our hopes a reality, starting with Karachi, we aim to:
• Increase Awareness of Mental Health and Wellbeing
• Build the base of mental health professionals with a specialisation in child and adolescent psychology
• Establish linkages with schools and teacher training organisations
• Provide practical, hands-on support for mental health issues amongst children and young adults
And later:
• Establish linkages with government agencies dealing with education
• Encourage and initiate mental health research related to children and young adults in the Pakistani context
• Make informed recommendations regarding mental health policy, implementation and services in schools
